Thanked: 4Does anyone know of Rev CJ Howlett razor?
Hi there. Saw this razor a while back and was intrigued. Only inscription on it is Rev CJ Howlett on the blade. Nothing else.
If you could help with any info etc, it would be appreciated.
Also, do you think it would be okay buying this razor, is it restorable?
Thanks

Thanked: 3164I don't think it is a 'C' - gothic/black-letter fonts do not have the extra bar in 'C' but do have it in 'E' and the letters are the same in all other respects.
The name, then, is reverend E. J. Howlett (or reverend Edwin John Evans Howlett, to be exact).
There was a passenger of this name aboard the Anchises, owned by the Blue Funnel Line in Liverpool in 1933. He was booked for a round trip departing 9th March 1933 headed to Las Palmas, Cape Town and Australia:
Looks like he lost his razor on the way - or had no need of it anymore. He was 55 yrs old when he embarked on the 4 month long voyage, and died aged 58.

The corrosion pattern looks kind of like cell rot.
You need to see how deep the rust is. It might be very shallow and there could be serious pitting under it. Rust like that is in a bad place if it's deep.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
