Think about it this way. You found it. It could have been worst if it was lost forever.

Dunno if it is the dreaded rot but I would keep it quarantined from my other celluloid scaled razors for an extended period of time. Ounce of prevention and all that.

No cell rot. It had 2 yrs in a safe that had a dead dehumidifier for about a year I guess. I had not opened it for the past year. The box had a slightly dusty mold like appearance. Here are some better pics.Name: 20131203_194501.jpg

That's almost like finding Christmas presents that were REALLY well hidden and forgotten about! That looks like a very nice razor and good to hear you found her before anything major happened to her.

Zak is correct in that that Faux Turtle celluloid is very prone to gassing. I recommend cleaning it up, inside and out. A good soak in 3M wet type silicone seems to keep the rot at bay. YMMV

OK now to be safe I'm going to drill the pin and separate the blade from the scales. How long should it take for them to rot away. I will save the blade if noting else. Maybe i will be lucky and a year later no change in the scales. I saw a horrible case of rot at an antique shop were he had about 25 high end razors in a small box that were destroyed.
