Soviet Razors.
I mean Soviet Era of course. I found a razor that looks pretty good. It was made in Russia in 1950. It has some minor rust but nothing a little sand paper and polish can't fix. I just didn't want to buy something and fix it all up just to have a polished turd. I just don't know what the reputation is for Soviet razors. Germany is usually good and American and Sheffield but I have never heard anything about Mother Russia.

Thanked: 3225Sorry no clue as to how good Soviet era razors were but if they are built like their T-34 tanks they may be a little rough around the edges but the steel might be pretty good.

In my experience, the steel is great! However it corrodes fast! Most are quarter hollow and as plain Jane as they come with blah scales.I have a few and while skinny, 5/8ths is a wide blade, they hone up well once you get to good steel and take as good an edge as any other razor I have found. All I have are long hour renewals from badly cared for blades from the 'Bay.

Thanked: 37I have two at present a Trud Vacha "Volga"and a Trud Vacha "Gravyura". Excellent shavers. T-34, Ak-47, good comparisons. The previous posts describe them well, plain janes (the Gravyura has a nice engraving of a bridge)but they hold the edge pretty good, and shave great.. I was lucky my blades were well cared for and shiny. They took an edge easily.

My experience with Russian straights has been hit \ miss. Some I've honed have taken great edges and others have crumbled as I've been honing them.
