Mmmike, I have that exact same razor. It was my first Kamisori... take note!

I had it professionally sharpened and even though I shave with a straight razor every day, I do not find it easy to use, but love trying.

Good luck with it and Merry Xmas.

Congratulations sir, provided it is honed properly it will give good shaves. It is softer steel than Iwasaki and will tend to chip.

I dont know if it is shave ready yet. I usually hone my straights so i guess i can put a nice edge on it. As for the chipping thanks for the tip i will be carefull. I cant wait to try it.

I meant it bit me a couple of times. I tried different angles starting flat against the face to around 30 degrees but it barely cut anything. It reminded me of my first try with a straight that was not shave ready. I have all the equipment to make it shave ready but the technique of honing these babies seems different so im gonna do some research before i try. If you guys have clues that can point me in the right direction i would appreciate it. Thanks

Because it’s a present, and a very nice one you lucky devil, I would send it out for the first honing. Then I recommend you find a mentor in Montreal or Quebec City and maybe get some “pernters”.
