Thanked: 10Ordering from the Ralf Aust website?
I'm trying to buy a new razor from Ralf Aust's website directly, but every time I add something to my cart, when I go to checkout the cart is empty. Anyone else had this problem? There is a little green dot underneath the quantity which I assumed to mean it's in stock. Maybe I'm wrong?
As a side note for anybody who has a RA razor: 6/8 or 7/8? This will be my first full hollow in a long time (since I started straight shaving 3 years ago). I didn't like hollow grinds at first and have been using wedges for a couple years now, but I want to give a full hollow a try again. I like the heft of wedges, so I am leaning towards 7/8. Thoughts?

I have not bought directly from the Aust website store. I would email them and check actual stock.

I have a couple of 6/8s Aust Razors.
You realize of course you will get opinions from folks favoring what they like-purely subjective.
Having said that I prefer the hollow grinds. From my view Wedges are throwbacks to a time before they knew how to make hollow grinds and once they did wedge production pretty much ceased and they never looked back. Hollow grinds are easier to maintain, more maneuverable on your face and give you much feedback. That's enough in my book.
My Austs are great shavers. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Not sure what model your looking for but give SRP a quick look because the have a pretty good selection. My route has been just the opposite moving away from full hollows towards wedges.
Good luck.

Thanked: 10In case anyone else runs into my problem with the website, it seems that you need to register an account first and then items will save to your cart. It doesn't really say that anywhere though, I just figured it out. (Now I just need to get them to ship to Oklahoma...)
Thanks for the opinions on the size everyone. Keep 'em coming. I still can't decide!!
Will the extra 1/8th inch give that much more heft to the blade? Or will it make it harder to maneuver around my face? Will a 7/8 "flex" more than a 6/8?

Thanked: 1184The words heft and hollow don't really go that well together :<0) I would say use the size your most used to. It just seems to me that if your trying to compare, the less variables the better. If your not used to using a 7/8 that just may add to your discomfort. My rotation consists of 5/8 to 8/8 all very hollow and while there is a small difference in weight, the width and toe shapes make more of a difference to me. That's just my take on it. Another way is heads = 6/8, tails = 7/8. Call it in the air
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
