Justme, I think you are getting ahead of yourself a bit. I like your enthusiasm but its highly unlikely that straight razor shaving can ever compete with Gillette. I don't think most people want to bother with the time and work that it takes to become proficient with a straight.

I do believe that straight shaving market can, and will grow many times over though (especially with a website like this in existence). In fact there is a need now for another large straight razor manufacturer, as TI and Dovo can't keep up with demand. So I think if Boker throws their hat in the ring and comes out with a quality product they will do well and see a profit from selling straights.

In the end though straight shaving will always be a niche market.

Agreed, it's ambitious and C utz may have it nailed- we may be overthinking this by a long shot.

If Boker decides to re-enter the market with a quality blade and can sustain in the market it will be a major achievment for straights at any level.

We may be overthinking it, but we won't be the only ones. This will be the same things that need to be vetted by any company looking to re-emerge or break into this market. We all realize that this isn't the market that will make a company rich over night. I think their original intent was to keep the business within Solingen -- I don't see production being outsourced. I wholeheartedly agree to firing up theose grinders once again!

I periodically fire off an e-mail to TI and Dovo asking them to consider a wedge grind blade. It would be less work for them - they could leave out the hollow-grinding production steps - and would stimulate a few purchases. The best I get is 'we have no plans to do that' from Dovo and nothing at all from TI. I love a rigid blade; half-hollow or better a wedge, and the only full hollows I use these days are damascus. Fortunately I have enough wedges to keep me happy, but I'd buy a new wedge in a heartbeat, just because I'm a sucker for such things.
