Thanked: 24I think I have something you guys will appreciate.
Tang is stamped with "For use. Warranted." I believe it to have been made between 1800 and early 1830s.
Heavy wedge.
The toe is 6/8 and the heel is 5/8. I really like how unique the blade looks.
Scales are horn. They look to be the original ones, as they're straight and have a lead wedge.
There is some deep pitting, but none of it is close to the age. But it's not as if you can be (almost) as old as Abraham Lincoln without having a few scars.
I may have over-paid for this razor, but I don't really care. I really like everything about it, especially the history. The only thing I dislike, is that I had originally planned to get an old english razor and scale it in bamboo. I'm half chinese and half english, and so I wanted a razor that shared that combination, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to bring myself to have this razor rescaled.

I agree that that toe-heavy profile really reaches out and grabs you. If it were mine, I'd only let the real honemeisters hone it…it's too pretty for my thumb fingers. I would just shave with it and be happy!

looks nice. is that the original profile of the blade? if i saw it in an antique store i might have passed on it because i would have thought it was suffering from some bad hone wear.

Thanked: 24When I was thinking about buying it, I researched on the edge, and some people said that this was a deliberate feature of some razors. Either honed that way, or made that way.
With the one I have, the edge is straight, and it's the spine that makes the blade wider, so I think it may have been made like this.

I love those old razors where the blade and tang are one piece. Just hone it and use it. It's a fantastic piece of history.
