    Default My Favorite.....for now..

OK, so I have been SR shaving for about 4 months and my ASRPM (average straight razors purchased per month) is almost 2. So far my collection includes (in order of purchase); Boker 5/8 Edelweiss, Dbl Duck Special #1, 2 Boker Red Injuns (2 for 1 deal), Ralf Aust 7/8 colored horn round point, Thiers-Issard le Bison 6/8 red stamina and a Joseph Elliot's 5/8 wedge (needs work). Of all my SRs in my modest collection the TI Bison provides me a significantly closer more comfortable shave. I will definitely be adding more TI's to my collection. What I cant figure out, is why the TI is significantly better than my other razors? Any thought?

The Edelweis, Red Injun, and Ralf Aust all provide a very good shave and were professionally honed.

    Thanks!

Says it right there on the blade. What did you think unrivaled meant?

    Very nice specimen.

At this point my guess it is the one that has the right weight and size for your shaving technique. I had the same when I started. Overtime we get better at shaving and can get better shaves from more of our collection. We all do settle in on little preferences too, although they often change.

That does make sense! I was also wondering if my TI has a "singing" hollow ground ground blade. I've seen some vendors (not SRD) advertise this razor as such.

I have 9 straights, and each instantly becomes my favorite when I use it. Funny how that happens...

I have three new TI's all with the C-135 Carbon steel, if that's what they are made from, it's a "singing" blade. I've heard two definitions of "singing", one, the feedback you get from the blade as it removes your beard, a very loud popping as each hair get removed. And the other, when a very experienced straight razor user, took one of my TI's(I still shudder at the thought of that) and tapped near the edge of the blade, and it made a pleasant, "tiiiinnnnngggg", sound.

I don't know, you hear so many things you learn to take everything with a thick lather....I mean, grain of salt.

Hi guys! I'm thinking of getting the Thiers-Issard Bison Red Stamina from SRD as my second Straight Razor. My first and only SR so far is a Ralf Aust - Solingen 5/8 Rosewood Scales, Round Point. Question: SRD has the above TI's in both the 5/8 & 6/8 models. Price difference is only a couple of bucks. Should I go for the 6/8 (which I am leaning for) or stick with the 5/8? Thanks for all your help! Ed

    That's a personal thing.

However since you have a 5/8s already I'd go for the 6/8s. Then you can see which you prefer. You may decide your next after that will be a 7/8s.

Thank you, bigspendur! Do you think that the TI that I am looking at is a good choice? Ed
