    Default japanese style straights

I'm thinking of trying one out. There's something about them that keeps me coming back, I would love to hear anyone's input on them.
I've been looking at Feathers, I figure it would be a cheap way to give it a try. Am I correct in understanding that the bevel is different on them. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts

Are you talking about a kamisori? A western style or a Japanese frameback?

From what i understand the feathers with the replaceable blades pretty much shave the same way as other replaceable blade razors. The traditional style kamisori are asymmetrically ground like this Name: 20140308_215754.jpg

I have this one. It's an Eiko. I'm not sure what to call it. It's a Japanese style but it's not a Kamisori and it's a western grind in that the bevel is even. All I know is that it hones up to a scary level of sharpness and shaves really well.

I was referring to the kamisori as far as there being a different grind. I'm still having trouble honing my regular straights. I can get them up to par for a shave but still having trouble setting a bevel. which is why I was thinking that a feather might be a temporary fix being that I hear the kamisori is harder to hone.

I think that Glen has mentioned it's actually quite easy to do edge refreshes on Kamisoris. I've done mine successfully so far.
I think the main issue is the learning curve to shave with them, but you can take that at your own pace.
My opinion is that of you're interested in a Kamisori, go for it. If you get a quality piece you can always sell it. Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1394405097.512892.jpg

As long as you know what you are doing it's easy. it's also easy to mess them up too.

I used a video Lynn posted to hone mine up last night. I could only used my Norton 4/8 and even on my first go with a kamisori I got the best shave since starting with straights last summer. It was amazing. Definitely go for it.
