Some French makers kept the tailless design for quite some time after it disappeared in other places. I've seen some quite modern (late 1800's / early 1900's) French razors without a tail.

It is written "Queyroul à Bordeaux", but this is the name of the seller, not the manufacturer, the name of the maker is "Renaut" (whitch is a cutler of Nogent, Haute marne, specialized in high-end maker contrary to Thiers).

This type of blade is quite hard to date because they were produce with little changes between 1830 and 1880, the fact that there is no tail isn't helping for datation : les rasoirs de perruquier (with no taill) are "very commun" in France and was produced allmost until the end of the XIX century...

The Nogent cutlers deliver their production to trading houses, such Guillemin-Renaut, which broadcast items in the world. They rarely sign their work. The marks on the blades are often those broadcasters (GR-Guillemin for Renaut), customers ("Faure" in Vichy) or simple indication of provenance ("Nogent"). Thus, the same model knife, if for two different stores will carry different brands. It is now very difficult to identify "the Nogent" among old items!

what did you end up using for the scales? I noticed a crack in the original scales, so I guess you replaced them, if you got horn, where did you get it?
