Well, I don't consider myself a minimalist, but I have been more or less shaving with the same straight razor 6 days a week for around 2 years, (with the exception of half a dozen shaves or so)

This is more out of laziness than anything else, I live alone, so the razor is always magically just where I left it the previous day.

The razor in question is a Dovo Master's, it's certainly not my nicest razor, there is nothing special about it, but it gives me a nice shave with no fuss.

As I'm writing, my mind has wandered to the first ever razor, it was a Wilkinson Sword, "Sticky" , bought in 1974 or 1975, I shaved with this razor for 20 years or so and I still have it.

yeah i get it, can't do it, living/working/driving junk/old/reused stuff as i do drives the redundancy urge of multiple spares/partsdonors/incasethatonefails/cansellitfor$ifneeded functionalities of my add brains and hoardish is more my speed

not to derail your thread, i'll watch with interest from the other side. carry on.

I remember reading a post by a man who'd been using one razor, one strop, and one barber's hone for almost ten years.

I'm currently trying to cut down on my stuff so that it becomes as close to minimal as I can endure. I should end up with 5 razors, 1 kamisori, 1 barber's hone, 1 pasted strop, 1 double sided strop. It still sounds like quite a lot though, but when I read about some of the people on here who've been in this hobby for decades, and have accumulated hundreds of straights, strops and hones in the process, I feel slightly better about how little I have.

I only use one...at a time! Ok, Ok, I will admit to using two for a shave occasionally.

I would have loved to keep it to a minimum. My wallet would have loved it more. But since December I have purchased 4 razors, 10 soaps, 3 brushes, 3 shave bowls, 3 after shaves, 2 strops, 2 pre shave oils, 1 pre shave cream, 1 alum block, and 1 scuttle........

    I know I have a problem.

One DE (head shaves) for the week before switching, and a different straight every shave.

I want to be minimalist, but probably not bad enough. The past week I have used two Filarmonica 12s and a rose scented artisan soap. I finally got a breakthrough on honing razors a couple of weeks ago and am experimenting with a two sided felt strop, one side with .50 micron spray and the other side with .25 micron. I'm hoping that by adding 10 strokes on either side to my stropping regimen I can extend the life of my hone job.

I will prefix this with: i own 3 straight razors, one gold dollar (to destroy figuring out the hones i bought) and one d/e that i rather impetuously bought 100 blades for ( app 35 years supply).
But out of that i only use my J.A. Hellberg frameback that i bought from Carl (carlmaloschnieder), the exception being if i get loaned a razor to try out, i will be off it for a week whilst i try out whatever i have borrowed. I have owned it since august last year, and its been a good companion.
I am deciding on a second razor to have at home, i work away so i would like to keep a razor at work and a razor at home. I currently pack all three and take them too and fro. Yes i know that i only use one but the box i have holds 3.
I am also whittling down the various soaps and creams i own until i have one for home and one for work.

Good luck with that Ed. The loneliness of the lack of mass will assert itself and you will once again be plagued by the mounds of 'ADs surrounding you in comfort. You are warned (with sympathy and understanding.)
