Default Recommend me a shavette for daily use

    Dear friends,

i have a feather artist club dx and as-d2

im using as-d2 with feather blade for daily use. im shaving 6 times a week...

but i would like to use straight all day... feather ac dx can be a little harsh for daily use so im looking for another shavette. i bought a coolcut 4 with personna blade for daily use but since the handle is too heavy i have difficulties to maintain the angle.

What would you recommend me for daily shaving?

    Regards

Forgive me for prying, and you may have explained your reasons but...

Well, I know that Feather is known for their scary sharp blades (I know first hand with their DE blades which used to be my favorites), and well yes, they can be agressive.

If it's not too much to ask, would it not be time to consider the option of a straight razor ?
Beautiful is important, but when all is said and done, you will always be faithful to a good shaver while a bad one may detter you from ever trying again. Judge with your skin, not your eyes.

You could try selling the DX, then using an SS. The "grind" of the holder is different, making it smoother and easier to use.
I think the next best thing after feathers/ kais is the Dovo shavette, which is much cheaper.

Well first of all thank you for your reply. All te honing and stropping process seems to be little complicated for me and ask time for maintenance. Also it requires another budget. Most important i have 2 curious sons so it can be little dangerous. if i can solve my problem with shavettes which i can easily dissamble the blade and store seperately i will be happy, if not ill continue using as-d2 double edge as daily use or ill plan to get a straight

    Regards

Thank you ive read about dovo shavettes but they say plasric holder broken down easily. What you say for bluebeqrds revenge?

ive seen from your post that ss is a bit less aggressive than dx and more forgiving. But as quality? They are close?

I learned to straight shave mostly using the Feather Artist Club SS razor which has the slightly rounded bottom which smooths out the skin which helps to prevent cuts. The DX and SS quality is the same. The problem with the Feather AC razor is that you're locked into using their injector blades. The shaves are great.

I've also used the Dovo shavette which is very light weight. It's advantage is that it can use either the red, green or black plastic blade holders for 3 different type blades. Yes the plastic blade holders can break but they are relatively inexpensive to replace at just a few dollars.

Maybe try the new model Parker shavette with the metal slideout blade holder.
Maybe get a more agressive DE like a slant or Muhle R41

Maybe ease yourself into using regular straights on the weekend? Try a cheap razor and strop from the Classifieds or from Whipped Dog? You could store the razor in a locked box in your bedroom away from the bathroom, safe from the kids.

Yes, and with no problems whatsoever.

    Emre,
Yes, of course, you can use the Feather Artist Club DX, with Feather Professional blade, daily. Just don't overdo your shave. If you use three passes daily, cut down to two — in most cases, two passes will provide a good shave. These are extremely sharp and unforgiving blades, and although they can give you a fabulous shave, they can also cause irritation if taken for granted. Also, limit the number of strokes over the same spot to avoid razor burn and other skin irritation — as you would do with the double edge safety razor. Keep the pressure light, and don't shortchange your preparation. I use my Feather Artist Club DX occasionally, since I prefer the traditional straight razor. In the past, though, I have used my Feather daily while traveling with no problem. Incidentally, the only straight razor with replaceable blades I would recommend is the Feather — and maybe the Kai. I find the rest flimsy and light, especially the Dovo shavette, and not worth the money even though they cost far less than the Feather. I would rather spend money and receive quality.
