Lickson Razor
Hi there,
Your experience please:
I was in an antique shop today and saw a Lickson razor, looked very old and I'm assuming it had been re-scaled due to them not fitting the blade properly.
Anyway has anyone heard of Lickson before? The blade had a Lickson type banner etched into it. The Shank had Lickson Garanti (?? can't quite remember but it was like that), on the reverse side it had 152, no origin of manufacture so I assume it's pre-1891.
They are asking $65 but wanted to find out more before I haggle and shell out for it.
If anyone has any information I'd love to hear it, a quick google search had no results
Cheers all, love your work.

When you go back, try & shoot a cell phone pic of it, then the guys here can give you a more exact answer.

Thanked: 104Andrew, I offered the same shop in Mayfield you were talking about and bought that Lickson for $40 in the antique store in Mayfield, I made em an offer and bought it on spec, hows about the lovely case? Did you find anything about it? Fancy that we both saw the identical razor, insane, eh, it's edge wasn't too bad, I reckon you could shave with it without a hell of a lot of work, there is no pitting/warping, the edge has no nicks, it looks as through it's previous owner loved it.......But who made it, how old is it, is it worth the 40 i paid for it, help us solve this mystery? But Andrew I have that razor in front of me now and it's the same one you describe, that's amazing we both eyed this one razor from thousands of antique shops in NSW....wow

I don't understand ?
If you want to post a photo, and it is in your documents, hit 'reply', hit 'go advanced' ....... scroll down below the text box to 'manage attachments' and click on that. When the pop up comes up click on 'add photos', then 'basic uploader'. Click on browse and go to the location on your computer where the photos are. Click on the jpg file and then 'open'. Finally, upload, and insert inline ....... and Done.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Never found anything out mate! Glad it's in safe hands no place of origin makes me think it's pre 1890, Lickson sounds English though. Maybe American??
Not the original scales though if I remember correctly...

Thanked: 104It's a bit of an unknown! The only thing about the word 'Garanti' made me thing European, and sure they are not the original scales. Anyway I cleaned it up a bit and honed it up. It's got no knicks in the blade. It started it's life as a 6/8, and has a lot of spinewear and now looks like a 5/8. As it happens I shaved with it a couple of hours ago and got a better than average shave, but it does need another session on the hones to get it 'there', but I've looked at the edge under magnification, and the edge is viable, so this 'antique' can be shaved with. I bought it on spec, but there is no evidence as to who made it, where it was made....nothing, oh well, someone on the forums might know something. Cheers mate.

'Garanti' makes me think German. Somebody may be along who knows one way or another.
