mjclark, you have sucked all the oxygen out of the thread. Make 'later' now and use the search box. Once you have done that, if you still have some questions, I'm sure someone will give you the answers you need.

What do you suggest I search?

I love the 'Sucked all the oxygen out..'

Just need to work out exactly what it means and when to use it but it seems like a nice gentle slap on the wrist.

mjclark, you haven't really "sucked all the oxygen out" I think it is just to early for some members and I for one have not had enough coffee. Try looking here The straight razor - Straight Razor Place Library
This forum is an excellent source of information and for the better part, we are a community that will answer just about any questions you have but doing some research yourself PRIOR to asking is always a plus. Making a bold statement with nothing to back it up tends to send some over the brink. Neil will usually give you the shirt off his back but you had better have done some work beforehand.

Thank you for the first courteous and helpful reply in this thread.
I've already done some research and my best date is 1820's so I'm looking for some input from others with more experience.

Also, I don't want the shirt off Neil's back, just a bit of his experience and the same politeness and welcome that I give to new members on the shaving forums of which I am a long term member.

I'll try not to judge SRP on this first experience, but you guys haven't really created a good first impression

Give us time, it may just be a bad day. Neil lives somewhere in your neck of the woods so post your location in your profile, I know you said in your "Welcome" post that you are from Devon in the UK and since I am not familiar with that part of the globe...

The first dead giveaway to me that your razor isn't a stubby was the shape and the grind. Just follow the link that I gave you and start sifting through it to see "why".

If my reply (No. 2) and guitstik's reply (No 9) were nor courteous and helpful and contained what we thought about your razor, I can only conclude that english is not your first language. That's your problem, not mine.

As for your plaintive cry of '...where do I search...' you have already been directed to the Stubtail Shavers sub group of this forum. Do us all a favour - use a bit of initiative.

    Regards,
    Neil

I think you're being rude now Neil, which doesn't become a man of your talents and reputation.
    Don't get in a strop!

I'm sorry that we've got off on such a bad footing and hope that we can communicate better in future

I'll certainly have a good look at those links, although I'm still baffled as to why a "Please suggest a date for this razor" question has aroused so much bad temper.

Asking people with superior knowledge for help constitutes part of my research in itself.

So for now I'll describe that razor as an Ingram Swayback...

Honestly, for me the real issue here is the nasty bleach stained blanket the razor is photographed on....and, what did the members of the forum of which you have been a long time member of say, surely you asked them first?

My apologies to you. Some of the answers you've received are, in my opinion, just plain rude. Don't be put off by the presence of a few rude and pretentious members, I think you'll find there are more gooduns than baduns.
As an aside, I find it frustrating that I was censored for giving a critique of a particularly bad vendor (we don't 'bash' vendors), a critique that would have been useful in protecting other members in my area from suffering the same experience and yet this sort of welcome given to a new member is allowed to stay up. Anyway, welcome my friend.
