    Default Tapered blade?

I am looking at a filarmonica doble temple 14. On close inspection the blade clearly slopes from toe to heel. The seller states that this is a smiling blade made that way intentionally by the manufacturer. Is this true, or is it a fault caused by improper honing or something else?
Thank you. If you guys can shed some light on this it will be very helpful.

I don't recall seeing any tapered Fillis. Pix?

Note the hone wear on the spine, how it appears greater (wider) at the heal than the toe.
It's not huge, but enough to explain the taper.

All that I spy with my little eye is a slight smile...no taper.

When I think of a tapered blade, I expect one that's typically narrower at the toe than at the heel, and that doesn't appear to be the case here.
    Geezer and Sandycrack like this.

I thought a smile was a curve being thicker in the center and narrower at both toe and heal. This seems to be fairly straight until about an inch from the heal then angels up.
I now see the flatter spot on the spine above it.

Ah...I see what appears to be HEEL heavy wear that you mean. But I took that to be an illusion due to the straight lines behind it. Looking at the curve of the spine, though, the edge seems to closely parallel it??

Sorry for the typo (heal/heel) - on a tablet.

It's hard without the razor - I zoomed in on the image and thought what I was seeing was a slight but pronounced wear on the heel. It could also be the lighting-reflection but it would explain the taper.

And like Dzanda I have never seen a NOS Filly with a taper.

It's still a nice razor - just not worth NOS pricing IMHO.

    Good luck..

I agree its heel wear there is no smile. I have several smiling wedges and a 1/4 hollow with a factory smile they are bowed with the middle appearing thicker but with the curve in the spine that's not the case. its a good usable razor but as stated wouldn't command premium price.

Just wondering. Is the razor 'Shave Ready' right now? If not how much would you expect to lose on the blade to get it ready?
If your going to do it or if one of the pros on the site will do it... I'd wait until it's sharpened to see what the final blade measures .
