Default So I have this "Full Bellied Hollow"....

and i'm intrigued with the shape but unsure if this razor needs any special treatment when it comes to honing.
I am worried about honing down the belly.
Also i am curious if the belly is added to give more stability to the extention of the blade?

Just hone it like any other full hollow has been my experience with bellied blades. I do use a layer of tape on the spine on all my razors. Yes, the belly helps with blade rigidity.

As BobH said go ahead and hone the razor as you would any other full hollow. Tape is optional for shavers who hone their own straights.

This advice is dead-on. But -- just one thing -- this is a case of insufficient razor porn. Where's the rest of this razor?

This a legitimate concern from 2 directions

    1. Pressure, the Bellied Hollows are probably the most sensitive grind when it comes to honing pressure, so be extra carefull so as not to flex the balde and touch the belly to the hone.

    2. Wear, The "Feel" of the shave will change If/When you hone the razor into the "Belly" of the blade, this is true of all razors but especially true of the Bellied Hollows..

This is a question, not a comment:

I assume that a bellied blade would be more sensitive to spine wear, since the altered geometry might bring the belly into contact with the hone?

When you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It's difficult only for the others.

I'd suspect so too and that possibly being the case, along with not using too much pressure when honing as Glen suggested, taping the spine would not seem out of place.

Yeah i always hone with tape and my touch/pressure has become lighter especially with this baby.
I usually aply black felt marker to see where the blade touches the hone.

    Here is the Porn Stimp.
You will notice the blade is unmarked/unknown. Perhaps the name was buffed off, i don't know?
But not a bad looker though.
