I store my razors in my dry bedroom to keep them away from bathroom moisture and to keep them safe from curious little fingers using my high traffic bathroom. I have a shaving basket where I keep my tooth brush, floss, daily medication and small light weight high use bath and shaving supplies. I put my razor of the day into a protective razor coffin in my basket and carry it to the bathroom with my other supplies when I shower and shave. Soaps, brushes, and my scuttle live in the bathroom. The bedroom being located about 15 feet from the bathroom on the same level helps.
Carbon steel razors get wiped with camellia oil after each shave. I am highly partial to stainless Friodur razors and need not be concerned with moisture damage to them with any reasonable care of these razors, but safety remains an issue in the bathroom between shaves.

Thanked: 8That pretty much sounds like what I'm doing now.
I was hoping to avoid frequent oiling, but I'm beginning to think I may not have a choice, even with a display box and desiccant.
Yes, we have these as well.
Any design ideas for my future display case will have to include a locking mechanism.

The oiling is easy & only takes seconds. I use Q-tips & a small bottle of mineral oil. I have seen guys here who applicators that wipe oil onto the blade.

Hello neighbor,
My setup is this humidor (not cheap!, but worth it and beautiful). It includes an hygrometer to keep an eye on RH.
With two of these dessicant packs (one should be enough). They can be "recharged" in the oven.
It stays around 40-50% RH and I never oil anything; so far so good and no sign of rust.
The only downside is that now my wood scales smell like cigars...

That depends...on how often I open the jar, how long it's open, and how humid the bathroom is. But I've been using it for 3 months, and regenerated the Dri-Box only once. I probably didn't really need to regenerate it then (the silica gel wasn't completely pink), but I was curious to see how it went.
When you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It's difficult only for the others.
It's the same when you are stupid.

I use these, the ones made for gun safes. Can be re-charged in an oven....lots of size and form choices.

Thanked: 49Check out the "shave den again"

And "show us your shave den" threads.

Lots of great DIY ideas in those threads. Also if you do a forum search for "razor storage" a lot will come up. You might be interested in the Alembicase. Not DIY, but it might suit your needs quite well. I believe he makes clear ones now not for display purposes, but so you can see what is inside. I may get some of these as I store my razors in the bathroom.Last edited by tedh75; 08-29-2014 at 02:47 PM.
