    Default Le Jaguar

I just bought a NOS Jaguar, 5/8. I searched the Wiki a bit and couldn't find much about the brand and manufacturer. I did read here that they made good razors.
But can someone tell me a bit more about the company or point me to the right direction where to search?

I can't tell you much about the company but in my opinion, they are one of the best factory made razors there are. As they are French I'd imagine you might find some info on French sites if you use Google translator.

Thanks i might do that. Of course, literal translation can take things out of context, but it's better then nothing and you often do get the general message. I'm glad about your vote of confidence in Jaguar straights.

    John,

You are correct on the Jaguar: it is one of the finest razors made. I have had several Jaguars in the past and wish I had kept them. On the other hand, I have one on the way so all is not lost.

    ElaMenthol,

I don't know much about the company either, but you have a great brand of a razor. I must say, I have never seen one with the Jaguar name plate on the scales. I assume the name is ground on the shank, is it not?

It's on it's way to me, but from the pictures i saw there is on one side at least a text, Solingen, Made In Germany. I don't know what's on the other side. The seller is very reliable and not a complete stranger to me. Otherwise i would have asked a lot more questions and additional pictures. But i only have pictures of one side of the razor. Wasn't very expensive either, nor suspiciously cheap. Is it possible Jaguars, or some of them, are made by J.A. Henckels? I just found a link with a Jaguar razor that is sold out, also Solingen, Made in Germany, by Henckels. Should be here fast though, probably on Monday or Tuesday, then i'll update this about what's on the tang (and tail if any).

I believe it's one of Le Grelot's brands.
However, the stamp on the tang doesn't look like it, so you may have a very different razor than the ones people are talking about.

That's definitely not the 'Le Jaguar' razors that the other members are talking about.
As far as I know Friodur is trademark of J.A. Henkels, but that razor has no mention whatsoever of Henckels so I would assume it wasn't made by them, and whoever put the that name on the scales either had the license to do it or didn't.

The registered/trademark symbols ® next to Jaguar and Friodur with the lack of J.A.Henckels most certainly don't give me confidence and I personally wouldn't buy such razor.

You're right, the jaguar symbol/logo differs and is inverted. I don't know about the Henckels, maybe it's legit and very rare, maybe fake, who knows. But i can very well understand that when in doubt don't buy.
