Thanked: 884I'd take my time and find some OLD TI stuff and build my own set if I was dead set on TI's. I don't own any and have never owned one so I can't say how great they are. However, based on the comments by those that know, I'm inclined to agree that new is not always better in the razor world.
My absolute newest razor that I use was made in the 1920's I figure. Most of the blades I use are from the 1850's to 1880's.
Other than that? If I had that kind of jack to burn, I'd by a race gun that would shoot a minute of man at a click.Member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club, participant SE Asia War Games 1972-1973. The oath I swore has no statute of limitation.

The main thing to remember, Major, is this....Whatever you do, take your time. Run it through your separator. Don't be a Moron!
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

You are not a moron. No...... I would not purchase that set. I would "set" aside $1000 and scour eBay for maybe a month or two and secure a vintage "set" of Rodgers in Ivory in a Edwardian or Victorian keyed parquetry box that show up from time to time. I love history so I would tend to go that route.

I feel like if you would have bought it before this topic hit page 2 or 3 you'd have had the support of most who posted, but now I think there's too much rational thought here. Personally though unless you plan on displaying them or rotating through them one by one, what's the point. I lean more toward the minimalist side of things, so the thought of one day needing to hone and strop for half a day would likely put me on the "Lets think about this before we spend that kind of cheddar" list.

As an investment and occasional use, would these appreciate in value over (for example) the next 10 years ?

I have just had another look, this is a set of 12 essentially identical razors. Why not just buy one ti 6/8 full hollow round point for a few hundred dollars and use it every day, that is essentially what you will be doing anyway but you will be almost 2.5k better off.
