I like how you think! And your idea may be not all that farfetched.

A long time ago ('80's)...in a land far away (Michigan) I actually worked in a lab that genetically engineered bacteria to perform complex chemical reactions and syntheses. And the bugs did their work cheaper and more efficiently, and produced a more pure product.

So keep on dreaming!
