Thanked: 7Help with age of vintage razors
Hello everyone!
Can someone help me with the AGE and "manufacturer" of these vintage razors..
1st razor is a "HIRA" 42 Slolingen - Finest silver steel Made in Germany
2nd razor is a ACMENSO - 75 - A.C. Menges Solingen
I know what Solingen is, but i can't find nothing about HIRA or A.C. Menges..
ALSO WHAT DOES THE NUMBER MEAN 42 and 75 .. is that the year? Like 1942 and 1975??
I would also like to know is silver steel really what it says ?? or maybe something else, because i have read somewhere that that isn't actual silver steel??
I am going to restore these two blades, and i am looking forward to doing it..
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you guys in advance and smooth shaves!

Thanked: 7Thank you SS502MC!
So i guess the number 75 could be the year huh? Since Acmenso was being made from 1962 on, this could be it.. still not sure, but thanks for the information buddy! I appreciate it! Smooth shaving, Stick

Dating razors is difficult unless you find someone who is a collector of that specific razor. Some razors are easier like the Duble Ducks because of the way production was done over the years. Typically the numbers on the razor mean little. I have never seen the numbers correlate to age.
Silver steel does not contain actual silver. I have seen some references that at one time long long ago it might have but no razor marked such will have any silver in it.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 7Thank you for that information thebigspendur. Now I know a little more about these razors, but there's still a lot to learn about them.. This is part of the fun of this hobby ..I doubt I'll find out the real age of these babies, but that's no problem.. Their in good hands now and that matters happy shaving!
