    Default Carl Rader decent?

I picked up this Carl Rader solingen razor the other day. It is slightly over 6/8 blade is nice but the scales look to have been replaced. What do y'all think?

I think if the original scales are anything like mine were, somebody did you a favor in replacing them!

The older C- Rads were great blades. I doubt you went wrong

The scales that are on it are crap. They don't fit right are warped very loose and won't tighten.

Are you sure they are NOT original?

Maybe they are. There are brass or copper washers between the tang and scales. Never seen that before.

That is actually not that uncommon. They minimize the wear on the scales. However, As you have seen I find that it makes it a bit more difficult to tighten the scales nice and snug.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Carl Rader's are excellent if in good condition. Yours looks good from here. I have one which is in it's original aluminum scales. Shaves along with the very best!

I had a 7/8s which I bought NOS. It's one of the best razors I've used.
