Thanked: 0What's your opinion on thiers issard
So I'm really wanting a spartacus. I talked to two different hone meister and they were split on thiers issard. One said he wouldn't touch them because the quality went downhill and he said it's a pain to even get shave ready at all. The other said he loves them but they require an extra step but he said its no big deal. I know some people won't hone them. Why is that? What's your opinion?

I would say the one who said he wouldn't touch them is an idiot.... even if quality 'had' slipped, it wouldn't be a blanket statement for 'all' of them. My recent (last 2 years) Thiers Issard is absolutely one of my two best shavers (the other is an older Filarmonica Doble Temple). Just my opinion
Edit: idiot, might have been harsh, everyone deserves and opinion, but I think it's wrong to say that they are difficult to get shave readyLast edited by ecormier; 11-14-2014 at 01:17 AM.

TI has always had issues of one kind of another. It used to be scale and pinning issues. I guess now it's blade issues. I think they still make great razors. if you get one that is bad you just send it back for a replacement or refund.

I have to agree that my TI is one of my favorites. I cannot comment on how difficult they are to hone but mine (Honed by Lynn) shaves like a dream.

Thanked: 45My first "nice" razor, which I have only had for a couple of weeks now, is an Art of Shaving T.I. with Ramshorn scales. I was very fortunate that the blade came very nearly shave ready, and only needed a little diamond paste and CrOX to get good-to-go. I absolutely LOVE shaving with it, and it holds its edge very nicely thus far, despite my Noob efforts to mis-strop and the like.
Based on this experience, I am sold on T.I. razors, though I may, based on reading here, not necessarily buy one sight unseen unless from a very reputable vendor who hones prior to shipping (I doubt I would get that lucky twice).
I can not speak for the honing, but the T.I. razors are visually stunning and seem to be of the highest quality when one has a good one in-hand.

Thanked: 0I thought they were always highly regarded as well. Anyone know if they are harder to maintain versus others? Could I keep it.up with a naniwa 12k stone? I haven't honed my other razor yet but I plan on honing them myself later on

I keep up with mine fine with crox, diamond or nani 12k as needed.
