Thanked: 0First Razor - Need Advice
Hey forum people.
To cut a boring story short, I have not shaved in about two weeks and realized it was going to be a pain in the backside trying with my regular supermarket one. I decided to go on the net and see what I could get ( originally trying to get an electrical one) but as most things that I try to search the net for, I created myself a problem of being bombarded with a million different products and types of shavers. I think I have settled for a straight razor.
So basically I need to do the first step and buy one. I was going to get a giesen & forsthoff one, they seem ok to my newbie eye and well priced, but viewed some mixed reviews from this forum about them. The other company which seemed to pop up is dova.
To put a budget on it, I am looking at around 100 $ to 150 $ or so.
Any ideas/suggestions would be great.
P.S I hope it doesn't seem rude asking for the most obvious and overused question on any forum for my first post, but I do need to buy hopefully in the next 24 hours. I am sure once I get the razor I will be using the forum for other stuff too.
Cheers.

Thanked: 4827Welcome to the forum. Basically you should buy a quality razor from a reputable vendor. I see your location and I know that there are many people from the same country on the forum and if you are patient they will eventually chime in on the where is best part.

Hi and welcome.
Dovo are as good as you will get to start out with in my opinion. Try either following the ads on here for straight razor design and you will get something you know comes from an expert (there are other banner ads on the site as well and I'm sure they are equally as good)
Btw good choice getting a straight over anything else especially electric!!!

agree with RobinK on the set from SRD. That was my first SR and you can't do better than Straight Razor Designs.

Thanked: 0Cheers for the response guys. I think I will take your advice and go for that set. Is there anything else that I need to get, such as a sharpening stone or something of the like. Also, how often should I get it sharpened ? Cheers

Redlom
I would avoid ebay altogether in the beginning. Lots of Australians on here that might be able to get you some local help.

Hi Redlom !!....Some great responses here so far.
Double your chances on some good info and sign in on the "Downunder" sub-forum
I have no experience with G&F, but I hear that their new blades are not so good compared to the older blades.
Going to the downunder sub-forum, you might get a "loaner" from a Melbourne-based forumite to tide you over
until you make the big first purchase.http://straightrazorplace.com/workshop/18504-welcome-workshop-how-do-i-where-do-i-what-do-i-answers-here.html
