Thanked: 3225Trees are a renewable resource, unfortunately if they are not replanted there is no renewal. A lot of these wood that we prize so much are very slow growing to boot. Add to that the very destructive, to the environment, and unregulated harvesting methods used in places where these exotic woods grow and you are on the road to extinction. Raping it is.

My espresso machine is decked out in Amboyna burl knobs and portafilter handle. By the time I wanted a matching tamper handle the price had tripled. Many of our thousand year old redwoods here in the US are being illegally poached for the burl. I'm a bit more educated and sensitive to what I allow myself to use for pleasure when there are more than adequate substitutes.
