Default Are these good to go...

I got 2 new blades for Christmas this year.....

This is the first one purchased from this site. The description says they hone the blade so pretty sure this one is good to go.
Classic Edge 5/8 Tortoise Straight Razor by DOVO

    The second one is
Thiers Issard Limited Edition La Legende No. 10 Collector's Straight Razor 6/8" | Shaving

I'm less certain on this one, from what i can tell in the description seems the blade is Pre-sharpened by Thiers Issard does anyone have any experience with this seller knowing if that second blade is going to be shave ready or should i find a local honing service to get that one ready to go???

I now have these two awesome razors along with my two from when i started out. Planning on picking up some honing stuff and jumping onto that learning curve this year but would prefer to practice on the older blade(s) rather than the brand spanky new christmas gifts.

If they are advertised as shave ready,do not strop them,I find it hard to believe a vendor would advertise Tortoise Scales without stating they are not real tortoise.

You are safe with the one from Classic Edge, Phil puts a fine edge on them before they go out. The one from Fendrihan I am not so sure about but I believe it just might be the factory edge you get from them. If TI put a good edge on the she should shave.

OTH, why would one expect real tortoise shell scales on a new production razor like a Dovo when the ban has been in place for so long. The mid 1970s I believe.

I and the purchaser of the gift both aware of the fauxness of the tortoise but still a valid point. I may try a shave with the not sure one see how it feels and then get honed properly if need be

The description on the Fendrihan TI says "Pre-Sharpened by Thiers Issard." So as Bob said, you may get lucky and it may be shave ready. I have had them come honed from TI really good and not so good. In the latter case nothing a good honing couldn't correct. So all I can say for that one is .............

Classic edge dovo is good to go. The TI you will have to try, it may need honing.
