Bill, my only thought is that while "paki" is obviously an abbreviation of Pakistan, it is also derogatory slang in the uk.

You get what you pay for and I wouldn't buy any new straight that cost less than $10 - even if it said Solingen on it.

What I really wonder is if there is a legitimate blade smith in Pakistan that makes really good razors, but is puzzled by the fact that no one will buy them.

Of course, but my point was that quality steel is available somewhere in the country. It just isn't used by the makers of RSOs and KSOs (knife shaped objects).
