Schooling on Pakistan (Paketa) razors
Several years I remember a conversation about Paki razors and that they were crap and wouldn't take an edge and if they did it wasn't for very long.
I have some Paketa razors that were donated quite some time ago and haven't done anything with them fearing the above. Well, I finally got curious and honed up two of them and started shaving with them. Actually, they shave very nicely and have done so for three shaves. Have I been lucky or what?
I am going to keep testing these for awhile longer to be sure. If I do end up using them in the giveaway I will change the scales on them.
COMMENTS PLEASE

Interesting and thank you. I guess that the name Paketa for some stupid reason made me think that it was from Pakistan. I guess that if I had Googled it I would have found out that it is Russian and that Paketa means Rocket which is the symbol on the scales. They report that they are OK, I will find out. However, I do have a razor that has Pakistan on the scales. I may have to give it a try.
Thanks again,
Bill

Thanked: 3795Not all steel items from Pakistan are crap. I have used many surgical instruments made in Pakistan that were of high quality.

I agree with Utopian. I've used some very sharp instruments from Pakistan that were very nice, but they were not $5 either.
I've also attempted to use some cheap instruments from Germany, England, and the US that were just crap.
You get what you pay for and I wouldn't buy any new straight that cost less than $10 - even if it said Solingen on it.
What I really wonder is if there is a legitimate blade smith in Pakistan that makes really good razors, but is puzzled by the fact that no one will buy them. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Thanked: 19I have some from the marbles 100 yr anniversary that are decent razors, not wonderful but decent, edge holds well but not as good as my vintage razors.my wife bought them unknowingly and they laid here for a year before they ever saw a stone. I had a new coti I wanted to try and surprisingly they shaved well. I gave one away and still have three. the one I gave away to Barry is still being used as far as I know. these may be a fluke but they are razors and not rso's.

Thanked: 171For what it is worth, in the cyrillic alphabet the letter that looks like "P" is actually the "R", hence cyrillic spelled "PAKETA" reads "RAKETA" (rocket) in our alphabet, which makes a lot more sense...
...and moves us even further from the originally suggested Pakistani connection.
