Sorry about your roof. The wind was crazy here on the Coast too....still is.

I really believe the conventional wisdom is just wipe the oil off and shave. I would not strop first. Others may have different opinions. I don't see, at a quick glance, where SRD says to strop after receiving a razor from them. If fact, I could swear mine came with instructions saying not to, but it has been a while.

Also have a Shapton 12000 grit coming to put in the stable of stones. Should be a good few days coming with toys!

I need after last night with the high winds and power out. We have ridge vent shingles that blew off the house so today in 20 degree weather after church I have to climb on a house to repair any wind damaged shingles!!! Did I mention the older I get the more I hate cold weather! use to love deep snows and cold brisk air! My 45 year old bones no longer care for it!
    Just call me Harold

Congratulations on your new R.A. razor. If you're not familiar with stropping I would shave first and strop later. Your new freshly honed razor should give you a benchmark for comparison purposes.

I realize this reply is a few months late from your original post but I have one RA and the Ralf Aust - Solingen 6/8" Horn Scales French Point Worked Spine on its way to me from SRD. I have been very pleased with the standard 5/8" round point I got some time back and have found it much easier for me to hone compared to the Dovo's and one Issard that I have. Not sure why that is the case but I have no problem with the RA. I am new to honing so on my others it very well may be user error. If you did decide to order an RA I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have mine and I am checking the mail everyday looking forward to using the new one I just ordered. If my new one shaves as good or better than the one I already have I could easily see myself slowly but surely getting a few more and not using the others near as often.

You will love the 6/8 as well. I have the same one you have on the way and it is just as good as my 5/8 version. These RA razors are incredible for sure!

I have a 6/8 Spanish Point Ralf Aust from SRD. It gives close shaves with its very thin grind. The blade sings when plucked. The quality, fit and finish is equal to Boker or Dovo. It's a no nonsense, all business shaver.

I got my Aust 6/8" worked spine in yesterday afternoon and could not wait to shave with it this morning. Not only is it a beautiful razor it is also and amazing shaver. I have a few Dovo's, one Issard, and a few Aust and can say they are all quality razors but the Ralf Aust are my favorite ones to shave with and the easiest for me to hone. They are the best bang for your buck IMHO. Anyone that does not own one already I would urge them to purchase one so they can see first hand what great razors they are. You can't go wrong with any one of them but the worked spine rams horn I just got is beautiful and I can't wait to show it off.

I have a RA 5/8 and love it. Takes and keeps a great edge. Great feel in your hand and it sells for an affordable price.

I have a RA 5/8 that I ordered from SRD. I am very happy that I made that choice. Very high quality steel and the shave is awesome.
