They are the best bang for your buck IMHO. Anyone that does not own one already I would urge them to purchase one so they can see first hand what great razors they are. You can't go wrong with any one of them but the worked spine rams horn I just got is beautiful and I can't wait to show it off.
+1! Just received mine on Friday (same as yours) love it, my first razor! Only been doing the straight shave for 3 weeks will never go back! Just ordered another razor, could become an expensive habit!!!!

Just received my RA yesterday. I've been shaving with a Dovo for the last month. I can't believe how much more comfy stable a shave the Aust is over the Dovo. Closer shave too.

I received a 6/8, French Point-horn scaled RA yesterday. As a matter of fact, the scales look like the ones photo'd above by Jkatzman. Out of the box, I looked at the closed razor showing the worked spine above those beautiful scale for a couple of moments before opening the razor. Opened, as those of you here know, beautiful finish, point-to-tail, like the script logo signature...nice break from standard print. The razor handled like I'd shaved with it 100-times...no getting used to the feel of the scales, etc., just picked it up and went to work. Of course, to use it as long as possible, I did a 3-pass shave...comfortable all the way, no nicks, burn, irritation, etc. This will be a favorite...correction, is my favorite and I'm certain I'll get another like it or perhaps even the 7/8, (don't have any of those) to put next to it. Obviously, not inexpensive, yet, I have no buyer's remorse over the price...I left my camera at my son's house in Coeur d Alene taking pics so will post a photo next trip over. Regards Everyone

I really believe that they are the best of the readily available new SRs, in terms of quality and style. I have two, and both were great learning tools.

If I would give you one tip, it would be not to be too quick to jump on getting another. You may want to spend time thing about different grinds, vintages, etc. By the way, this is do as I say, not as I do advice

My RA 7/8 french tip is my daily shaver for 6 months and counting. I am very happy with my purchase and would definitely purchase again. MY only regret is I didn't buy a 6/8 razor as well.

I appreciate your counsel...I have a number of razors, 5/8, 6/8, full-half-quarter's, several of each...(1-wedge. I really like this one and would agree, (within the limits of my experience of course, 7/8 years), that they're pretty high up on the razor shelf.

    Thanks again!

I'm curious...are you saying you now think you would prefer a 6/8 over the 7/8 or that you would like a 6/8 as an addition...I ask because I'm thinking my next purchase could well be the 7/8, but, admittedly, have never used one. How do you like it? Is it the only razor you've used, etc.

    Thanks...again, just curious.

I have a 5/8 round point, and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great starter straight. Very smooth shaver and easy to hone and keep sharp. Even though I have picked up a lot of razors, my Aust is still among my best!
