Anybody have a Portland razor?
I ran aross this US made razor company and they have some nice looking models. 4 total I could see and the story a rather nice one to read. Just wonder how well their razors are and hold edges.
Thank you for any feedback on this company and razor.German blade snob!

I just bought one. Has not been delivered yet maybe April? But I am very much looking forward to it. They have made a change to the design that is not on the website yet. Read the blog for information.

Read the links posted above for details, but the cliffs are as follows . . .
American made product, reasonably priced . . .
Aesthetics are not to everyone's tastes . . .
Plenty of folks like 'em (I have a Hydra in the system) . . .
Owner seems responsive (recent changes address early critiques) . . .

Yes the price point is very pleasing in a razor and if they are just as good as a Solingen blade I may in the near future give one a try. I like the fact they give you the choice of scales. Just wish they had actual horn material to their selection! Maybe in time they will. Curious to shave quality; how it holds a edge; and it's ability to be sharpened as compared to other well known razors?
I need to check the blog.............I read all the other links but that so far.German blade snob!

you have hit the key question Michael...how do they shave and hold an edge over time? i admire their entrepreneurship and hope they are as good as they appear to be at that price point. in the meantime there are so many choices about which the longevity questions have been answered.

Contact them. They have custom scale material available. And sizes if you would like something other than a 6/8

Thanked: 45I have a 6/8 Leviathan on order (should be delivered in the next 2 weeks) that I have customized with horn scales. I will post pics when it arrives.

I've honed several, the steel is good quality and grind issues are minimal. Some required two pieces of a Super 88 to duplicate the bevel width. The 8/8 I honed was really nice.

They are changing to a thicker bar stock specifically to eliminate the need for that second layer of tape, according to the blog. I have not read any where of Customers complaining about how well the edge holds (or doesn't as the case may be).
Looking forward to putting edge to cheek in a couple months and will definitely be reporting back on how they feel to a newbie.
