It's a nice razor, but it's leaving me wondering whether I need to get a true wedge.... This is the type of thing that keeps me up at night.

Well, THAT answer is simple enough. of COURSE you need a wedgier wedge. you also need a more hollow hollow. and you need both of them in sets of Round Point, Square Point, and Spanish Point.

My wife might disagree. For some reason, she thinks nobody needs more than one razor.

That's not surprising. MOST women find me disagreeable

That's closer to being a near-hollow than a near-wedge. A near wedge, visually is obvious, and you'll not mistake it. Also, it will make very little sound when stropping and shaving.

Does she HAVE a straight razor? Does she SHAVE with a straight razor? Tell her she doesn't know what she's talking about then

Ha ha! No, she doesn't shave with a straight. But we've come up with an unspoken agreement -- I don't give her a hard time when she buys too many clothes and she doesn't give me a hard time when I buy too many razors.

Besides, mate, like you she's an Aussie. And I've learned over the years never to tell an Aussie she doesn't know what she's talking about.

You will be looking for a while, they don't exist. Grinding wheels are cylindrical, so all razors have concavity unless you hone the whole thing flat yourself on a stone.

A little concavity, yes. But I'm not convinced a 1/2-hollow really counts as a near-wedge. I've certainly seen pictures of far wedgier wedges, which leads me to believe that it won't be quite like searching for Bigfoot.

Even 1/4 hollow in my book is still... hollow. I'm saying a 'true wedge' with completely flat sides does not exist outside of maybe a microtome. All razors, even the wedgiest-wedge you can find, were originally hollow ground in the sense that the only points of contact when laid flat are the edge and spine.
