In the knife world, sasanoa is ‘bamboo leaf’ shaped, just as a yanagiba is ‘willow leaf’ shaped. A sasanoa is about halfway in blade width between a gyuto and a yanagiba.

I suppose that it could also be a name, the Aesop lather bowls are actually part of a Sori Yanagi brand set of bowls, and Yanagi means willow.
