Thanked: 3215Wm Stenton & Sons + 1 inch find.
Pick up this old wedge this weekend at a local Antique Flea Market.
A Wm Stenton & Son, Again Superior 1846-1860. It is over 1 in wide and in good condition with a slight hollow ground and a smile. Very little spine wear and pitting, the heel still had an edge that would cut arm hair, thick Pine scales and lead wedge that does not do much, “pinned” with countersunk, brass screws and nuts.
Here is a link to some history from Neal Miller and another from Zack, Voidmonster and Stenton’s history and relation with Wostenholm and another from Zack’s website Shivering Beaggers.
Love Zack’s photography on his Shivering Beaggers site every time I look at it, worth the trip for the photos… and then there’s his amazing research…

Thanked: 4828Thanks. That is a whopper. I can see the scales may have been a make do back in the day but it looks like they are sub par by current standards.

Nice find Marty! Must be a 'Great Minds' (or is it Small Minds?) think alike kind of thing, because just as you were posting this thread I was shaving with my Stenton tonight. I love mine...I'm sure you'll love yours!

Man! Those are some heavies! That Stenton history is strange!
My Stenton and Son is a tad under 7/8, but is pretty hollow. The spine and tang are not nearly as thick.
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
