Thanked: 0Trying to decide... Comments?
I've been looking at a few razors thinking I'll get me another soon. I have a Boker King Cutter and a Dovo Best Quality already and I'm trying to decide between a Bergischer & Lowe, a Bismarck, and a Forestal. Does anyone know anything about difference in blade quality? And which of the 3 do you think looks the best? Thanks!

Thanked: 45If you want to know which one looks best....
I also have a Bismarck and the shave is as excellent as the Bergischer & Lowe. I happen to like the shoulder-less grinds like either of those though. Either way you can't go wrong...it is just a factor or cost more so than anything between those two.

Tough choice. Feed the RAD, get all three!
I'd go with a Bismarck first, a B&L second, and a Forestal third, but can't go wrong with any of them. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Thanked: 4828Maybe take a walk on the wild side and try a different grind. Have you experimented with the varying grinds? Variety is the spice of life.

The Dovo Bergischer Lowe is a great looking razor. Shaves great as well.

I've not tried the Forestal but both the Bismarck and Bergischer are great shavers!
The BL is a lot more pricey that the Bismarck and really I think the shaves are pretty comparable, so then you're just down to which you prefer the look of.
But TBH if you have a King Cutter and a BQ (which are fairly similar blades) then the BL/Bismarck are kinda in the same vein. IE hollow ground production Solingen type blades.
I'd start looking for an old Sheffield blade right about now - W&B, Rodgers, Reynolds, Wosty's and that sort of thing. Very different to what you have now and cracking shavers to boot!

Thanked: 0Looks like the verdict is the B&L. Stubear, I looked at some of the older/antique razors, and I haven't seen very many that have been restored well, and fewer that I like. Still looking for it, though. Thanks for all the replies!

It's Bergischer Löwe, Lion of Berg/Bergian Lion. Berg used to be a dukedom in the west of Germany, which was dissolved (for lack of a better term) around 1815. The Lion is still in use though e.g. in the coat of arms of the city of Düsseldorf.
Just nitpicking, good looking razor.
