I would have to say its my Joseph, Smith & Sons 5/8's spike point. I bought it here from a moderator and I think it shaves better than my new Dovo. I have since put custom scales on it. it will be my back up razor when I start to learning honing.

The above pic is Mikaels, a long-time member here. I managed to get two of them and Mikael bought one - now it is his favourite too.

Nice one Neil, sort of fancy but understated at the same time.

I like this too Obie, not flashy or anything just a solid razor . ( the "too" refers to my previous post regarding neils razor, I don't have either personally. My comments are just my opinions of the razors).

a Joseph Rodgers and sons that Phrank gave me.
It is predictable, reliable, easy to use and I don't think I have honed it since he gave it to me.

    Ed,

Thanks for the kind words. I purchased the Wade & Butcher ivory set last year. Paid a bloody fortune for it. But who can resist a pair of Wade & Butcher 6/8 smiling hollow blades with barber's notch, sloping spine on both sides, and ivory scales in mint condition? The set had been in storage for decades. When I first saw the razors, I almost had a heart attack at how stunning they were — and in near perfect shape.

All I had to do to the razors was to use a wee bit of Maas compound to clean up some old, barely visible water marks, and then hone them. That's it. It didn't take me much time to hone them into glorious shavers. I've had several offers to sell them, but heavens no, these two will stay in the family — forever.

The pins are a wee bit loose, but I don't want to tighten them for fear of cracking the delicate ivory scales. The set is a regular part of the rotation and the razors are a pleasure to shave with.

Good stuff. I can only bow my head to the artist and craftsman who made them, I assume sometime in the 1850s Sheffield.

Any of my 7 Bokers would be my choice, but my favourite changes daily. Oh hang on, my Union Spikes are great shavers too. Actually, my Natch is a fine shave too. And my Revisor. Oh forget it!

I really like my Ralf Aust 5/8 and just ordered a 6/8 from SRD. I also like the Boker Silver Steel 6/8 but the Ralf Aust's is still my favorite. The ones I keep going to the stand to use is the Genco 5/8 and 6/8. Seems to have a really solid balanced feel and it holds their edges better then the others. Once a New Yorker always a New Yorker. Love the idea the Genco's I have were made in NY.

This first generation Filarmonica Especial 8/8 the original EPBD no matter how many times I use the razor I'm always amazed how wonderful a razor it really is and the condition is pretty amazing for such an early Filarmonica.
