Asking for help to find a straight razor
Hello Gentlemen:
I would greatly appreciate it if you kindly could provide me with some help in finding the straight razor that I would like to have. I thought that with a $400-budget I should easily be able to find it, but obviously I was wrong. Do you know any razors that follow the criteria below?
- New or NOS (unused)
- 6/8
- Sharp French/Irish point in a triangular fashion (not muted), or a smooth domed if the point itself is not muted.
- Full hollow.
If I am not able to find anything else, I will probably get a Wacker Chevalier (http://www.wacker-rasiermesser.de/ra...artnr1074.html).
Thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide.Last edited by GMH; 07-16-2015 at 01:14 AM.

I'd suggest, in addition to whatever other hunting, posting in the WTB section and looking at the classifieds. Also, if you are looking for new or NOS, you can find razors on ebay without the usual worries of uneven hone wear and such.
I believe Revisor sells NOS blades on their website - Welcome to Revisor-Solingen
You might also want to consider looking to some of the custom makers - not sure what they cost, but maybe one would fit your budget.

If you are looking for a true square point, I must warn you that the Chevalier is slightly muted - less so than most Wackers but still muted. If that's a make-or-break feature you might have to settle for a square point. There are plenty of vintage square points (that was once called an "American point") available as well as many current production squares such as Hartsteel.
There is also the option of buying a square or round point and having Glen (gssixgun) put a French point on it and make sure it is a sharp one. His rates are very reasonable.

After reading your list of desired attributes I was going to recommend a Chevalier...it's one of my favorite razors.
Another razor I love to bits that may be an option for you is the Kikuokon 77. Also checks off all of your boxes. Tough to beat a good ol' J-west...
!! Enjoy the exquisite taste sharpening sharpening taste exquisite smooth. Please taste the taste enough to ride cutlery.

Thanked: 8You can't go wrong with a Wacker Chevalier (or "Lady Chevalier of the House of Wacker" as I call her). These days the quality of Wacker is flawless and their razors are shave ready. The Chevalier is a piece of art. I'd say that it's the most beautiful non artisan razor there is today, but that's my opinion, take it for what's it worth.
Today there's no better option if you want a new razor with (a muted) French point. I will add a couple of pictures to make your decision easier . Notice the grey smoke patterns in the black horn scales. If you can live without the French point Ralf Aust also makes a really nice 6/8 thumb notch razor with forged spine and black and white horn scales.
This ends my first post on this forum.
Kind regards

Thanked: 315It's in used, but good condition. I thought this one looked similar to what you were looking for. The size isn't given though.

I would like to thank you all for your help. Your suggestions are well worthy of consideration.
Thank you for telling me about the Chevalier's point, I had not noticed that it was so muted. Buying a square or a round point and putting a French point could be an option,
Your pictures clearly show how muted the point is; thank you. The Chevalier is a beautiful razor; If the point was not muted it should almost be the perfect razor.
Where in Sweden are you?
Who makes the Kikuokon 77? I cannot find anything about it.
I do not understand what you mean with “checks off all of your boxes“. Could you please be more specific?
I can see that you like the Italian Blue Floïd; I strongly like the Italian Amber Floïd and the D.R. Harris Pink aftershave. However, when I comes to shaving soaps, I prefer the Mitchell's Wool Fat soap.Last edited by GMH; 07-16-2015 at 05:47 PM.
