    Default THoughts on two razors

No question here, except the implied ones.

Two razors. One a traditional kamisori (a), and a Dovo (b).

B hones quickly, gets a hht 4 or 5 easily. Shaves very comfortably, but always leaves 'stubble' in the neck hollows. Other than the easiest part, my cheeks, I can feel the faintest bit of beard. It never cuts me.

A is tough to hone. I've never been able to get a hht from it. The shave is less than comfortable. Often, it will will shave off a little skin and leave a bleeder. The bleeder, however, never lasts past rinse and aftershave. Often, but not always, it leaves absolutely no trace of beard in my neck hollows. It never leaves any trace of beard anywhere else. The quality of the end result is always better. It always, despite being careful, nicks my strop I don't know how this happens. B never nicks my strop.

    Hmmm....

Might try a bit different angle going ATG with the Dovo. I always do another ATG a bit radically sideways to eliminate that.
Feel the way the leftover stubble is stood up and go with that.
Kamis are different to hone and take a completely different approach. Too much info to sort out sometimes. Oz gave me a link and some advise and I got mine going quite nicely. Due to the spike, I go with a paddle strop on mine.
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
    I rest my case.

Maybe B needs honing to a better standard?

Agreed! I thought my first vintage razor (an older NOS Fromm) was a bad shaver until I figured out that I am simply a poor honer.

Here's some info on honing a kamisori:

The kamisori is a much sorter blade than the Dovo and although not as sharp, will get into hollows of the face that the Dovo won't.

So what does the edge look like? HHT means that the part you tested is sharp or not, tells you nothing about the rest of the blade. Probably the edge was/is not complete.

The second one sounds like it has a chip or two. Look at both edges with magnification.
