Sorry to ask again chaps but going back to the razor with the dagger on tang, what do you think it looks like the scales are made from?
Could J. Beardshaw & Sons made it? I see they, like Joseph Allen & Sons also have a dagger/sword stamped on tang?
I'm confused lol
Best regards,
Gabe
Joseph Allen has the dagger. Beardshaw has a sword. The pommel and tangs are different between the two weapons; and the razors as well.
It's difficult to tell the scale type from the picture, but my guess would be celluloid. If you search this site for "scale identification" there are some threads on how to identify the different materials using a hot needle on the inside of the scale.
Awesome! Your knowledge is never ending, there is always an answer here! Thank you! ;)
Ok, here is a close up of one of the ends of the scales in question. Note it has a split, i can see grain along with "164" scratched onto it. Attachment 208763
Also a letter "A" scratched just above the pin.
There are 3 more numbers on the other side.
Attachment 208767 Hopefully you can see it better here.
There are some old threads on SRP that talk about how barbers may have individually marked their razors in the shop, to keep they out of others hands.
Use the advanced search function(not the GOOGLE box) & read about this.
That is horn. Can be repaired.
I agree with sharptonn, that is horn, which is a good thing.
