Most of us have a multiple razors. I keep two in a case that I alternate between every day. Cased pairs are two razors in a case. Sometimes two of the same razors and some times two different.

I don't think SRD actually sell a cased pair but they do sell the case so you could probably work out a deal with them if they have razors you like.
If you alternate you can stretch out the time between honing or use one and keep one for when the other needs to be honed or is out being honed. In theory a seven day set needs one honing per year if you use a different one each day

Having both Thiers Issard and Aust and liking both a lot I still must confess that I find Aust to be the better razor manufacturer.
Well, the parameters for the purchase are fairly simple: a) gift, b) US$ 300. Within these parameters, I think it is fair to assume that c) shave ready is to be expected, too. That definitely rules out anything from eBay and quite possibly any razor not sourced from a retailer known to inspect and, if required, enhance the edge of that razor.
Since the seller resides in the US, a US based retailer seems like a sensible choice, if only for warranty reasons. Not least because shipping from Europe will add another US$ 30 or more. That leaves an Aust from SRD in my book. There are others, and they may be equally good, but in six years of shopping, I have never had an issue with SRD. One of my paddle strops had a problem after four(!) years (the glue on one of the modular strips suffered a fatigue fracture, and the leather came loose), and they dealt with it quickly and efficiently.
So, Aust, or anything else from SRD. Koraat or Revisor if you want something you cannot get elsewhere, especially new old stock, if you don't mind the shipping costs. In my very humble, and certainly not entirely objective, opinion. If I had to buy a gift, I would try to eliminate as many potential reasons for failure as possible, and buying from SRD seems a surefire way.
I would get an empty razor box and put whatever your budget was inside with a note saying to fill this box with whatever you like.
I just recently decided to get prescription glasses because the cheap cheaters just were not doing it anymore. My wife came along to pick out frames. She showed me a pair that i didn't like. But she said that is the kind you have been wearing. And my answer was yes but that is because that is the kind they have at the Dollar Store.:rofl2:
