Thanked: 1936Yes sir, you are correct. I have honed over a dozen of them (Hart razors, but never a 5/8) and they will handle a 30K edge & hold it...very few razors can take that claim. I no longer have a 30K due to the very low numbers of razors that can handle that super fine edge.
Most people who hone prefer their own edges, so no matter if a top honer sent them a razor in a blind test...they would still prefer to "touch up" the razor to their liking.

Thank you and God Bless, Scott

Thanked: 3795I know that it is off topic and I should not feed the beast, but the above made me think of this scene. Hopefully Robin and a few others may appreciate this.
I highly enjoy Mr Swanson!
Back on topic...
The original question was "is it shave ready from the artisan?" Well, we all have different definitions of shave ready. The most crucial being "does it shave?" Ultimately, the edge will need to be touched up anyway and it that point the question then is entirely moot. I'm not a fan of the razors but some people like them and that's pretty much the way all of this stuff shakes out.

Thanked: 3215I hear you… yesterday I handed a cashier a ten dollar bill, he looked at me, flipped it over and studied at the back, held it up to the light, then put a currency pen to it. Thought about it for a few seconds, then put it in the cash register.
I said, “Get a lot of counterfeit tens, do you?”
He did not reply.
“You really have to look out for the Chinese one dollar bills, you know they are shipping those over by the plane load.”
He looked at me as if I had just told him, the world was ending.

Thanked: 6Mine was great. I had to strop it but it worked for weeks with only stropping. Having large hands I find it much more ergonomic to use and strop.

Wow! I find this a little insulting. As if there is a perfect quality razor. Out of all my customs and vintage razors the order I prefer is, Tim Zowada Custom then my Harts. The rest are just eye candy and rarely touch my face.
In my opinion all razors have a short coming. You just find the ones you can live with the best. Yes, all my razors have a shortcoming. It's a dog eat dog world and I have on milk bone underwear.

Thanked: 3227With razors as with anything else it is each to their own when it comes to likes and dislikes. I do not own a Hart but do have an opinion of them from a potential buyers POV. The comments I have read on them are mixed with too many various negatives for me in the mix. I do not care for the scales as supplied, too big and clunky for me. I don't have a horse in the race so where it is made is not a factor for me either. I have razors from 6 different countries that all shave well. Overall there is not enough appeal for me to buy one. Oth others do have a different view and so long as they are satisfied that is all that counts. Heaven forbid we should have all the same tastes.

I know the steel and the maker is what makes a quality razor. I have nothing against the blades look as long as that steel is ground right and works like it should. I too dislike those Hart scales. But that I assume could be easily rectified by getting aftermarket ones.
There are some that dislike a PRC razor...............I have one and it is one of the best looking and well made razors I have that shaves like a dream.
I love my German beauties too.
So I too am not against Hart for I have not used one. Just wish they had a better looking or might I say scale option.German blade snob!
