Thanked: 2Gold Dollars..which is the best?
Hi there,
I've not posted on here in a long time and have gathered a few razors since.
among the razors I do have from vintage steel to modern stuff I have found that a very well honed gold dollar 208 is an extremely good daily shaver and is easily as good if not better than some of my older and more highly acclaimed razors (honed by the same person) Dubl Ducks being an example.
So, in searching around I have found little about them other than a few old threads saying they were rubbish and wondered if that has changed or if other people use different models and have great results too.
Thanks in advance
Daniele

If you are happy with your GD when compared to a properly honed Double Duck so be it.

The main issue with gd is and always has been the factory quality control. Typically once the issues with Gd's are corrected they make fine shavers. However that is not always true. With all those factors they are not good razors for new shavers unless bought from a know seller who is known for correcting these issues before selling the razor and willing to stand behind the razor.

Thanked: 2I've also read this elsewhere and I'm not just being inflammatory, I really do feel that the 208 I have is a fantastic shaver but I accept that some may not be.
I only know of a 66 and 208 model and haven't found much else, I wondered if they have other models that people have experimented with and found to be good, great or better than the 208.
I fully accept alot of people may say theirs are rubbish but for the price if I knew what other models there are I'd be prepared to give them a whirl.

Thanked: 1082First of all welcome back to SRP, you've chosen a hell of a topic to come back with.
Gold dollars usually cause a bit of hysteria here, but if you're happy with them its all good.
Ive never used one but really want to go and buy one just to see what the fuss is about.
In my opinion they're made in China, probably in a sweat shop, "craftmans" getting paid tupunce and hour and churning out 1000s every day.
At a coulpe of bucks a razor I cant see much in the way of quality.

Thanked: 2Haha cant blame you for that but I've currently got my goldedge up for sale due to it's performance to price.
Maybe I've been unlucky with the DDs I dunno but I've had much better shaves with alot of other razors than my two.
For the silly prices they command I've not been fortunate to experiment with many.
Then again I dunno how many GD models there are, if you send me 10 GDs that shave better than my 208 I'd send you my minty Goldedge gladly.
