hard to find razors these days
Just got back from a day of antiquing in the Poconos, PA and not one razor!
I used to find them all the time and some of the shop owners tell me kids from Brooklyn are coming in and buying them up.
I thought the hipsters in Brooklyn were growing beards!?
I wonder how scarce razors are in other areas?"Here's to swimmin' with bow-legged women."

Thanked: 2284Wet shaving has taken off here in Canada. I imagine down there in the US its gotta be even bigger. I've noticed even around here that razors are more scarce than they were 3 years ago. I've even noticed blades with horrible hone wear, gone the next time I go back to the same store. EBay doesn't seem to be dying down yet though

I live in the Chicago area and there is a massive antique mall north of me and not much in the way of anything shaving related, DE, SR, mugs, brushes. I asked one of the ladies and she said they have been getting a lot of 20 somethings coming in and asking about shaving stuff!
So, yeah, it's getting popular!! I found a Henckles 50 1/2 but the price was way to high. Other than that, not much, even in the way of beat up stuff.

Most likely the cat is out of the bag. What used to be a curiosity piece of neanderthal shaving practices has become a something of value in the antiquary world. I think most sellers even of the mom and pop flea market kind have noticed the trend. Especially places close enough to metropolitan areas.

I was in an antiques store on the Eastern Shore of Virginia a few weeks ago, and when I asked, the owner said, oh we used to have tons of those but they seem to be getting scarce...story of my life

Thanked: 2284I find the best places to catch razors in the wild is out in the boonies. The little towns that you drive through to get to cottage country are the best. If you see an antique store in one of those towns, you best be stopping. You need to get to th places were the "word" hasn't got to yet. That's where I've had the most luck. Towns that don't have corner stores, or gas stations but for some reason have an antique store.

Thanked: 39I went to an Antique store yesterday that had about 20 vintage razors, unfortunately they knew their business and priced them kinda High IMHO, but since I couldn't leave there empty handed I bought a G.Wostenhom&Sons for $40.00. No pipe stamp. I have Pics but will have to E-Mail someone them. I also have bought a Wade&Butchers and a Krusius Brothers XB EXTRA #62 in the past 2 weeks. I need to go back to the Antique store and pick up that Genco they had.
