    Possibly because you can read the odd spelled words without pause. The ligatures are the same, no pause. It takes a second to fix the long s. I'm sure the more you read of the long s, the easier it would be to read fluidly.

    The long s makes it difficult for me to read. The text is interesting enough, though, to make the effort worthwhile.

    It's like those examples of how the brain can unscramble words as long as the first and last letters are crocet.
