Thanked: 0Need info on "The Fresno"
Hi I am new to straight razor shaving and I'm looking to try and find out about a razor my father gave me. It was his great uncle's, it is called the Fresno and metal is from Germany and on the other side of the blade it is stamped GEO. F. NIDEVER FRESNO CAL. Any help that you can give me will be much appreciated thank you.

I would assume that it was made in Germany for a barber supply company in Fresno. Can you post some pictures?

A picture would help, but as BeJay said, it is probably a rebranded German razor made for a barber supply company.
The Nidever family was one of the first to settle the Santa Barbara area in the 1830s. The first Nidever there was named George and there were six children one of which was also named George who also seems to have had a son named George. Yeah, lots of George Nidever's in the area.
Best guess is the George Franklin Nidever born in 1856 in Santa Barbara. Fresno isn't that far away and was probably the closest big city at the time. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Thanked: 0Thank you for all the info, it was still pretty sharp when I got it from my dad and then I ran it over my strop and now it is plinking hairs off without touching the skin.
