I have seen a lot of Ducks and can tell you they all have something different about them. Think about it like this. Bresnick and later Perslson were not manufactures. They would order a certain number (batch) of razors to sell in the U.S. I know for a fact that these orders were placed to different manufactures and those manufactures had different craftsman making different parts of the complete razor. I would bet it is more of a rare thing to find the same model Duck made 2 or 3 batches apart that are more alike than not.

As for the size DDs were measured from the point lowest on the spine to the edge in the old days. So if you see one that is over 6/8 by a hair it is a 6/8 and may never have been any larger. Case in point, I have a 8/8 Satinedge that I had to take down to 15/16 to get it working again. It was a true (old measure) 8/8 when I got it.
Although rare I wouldn't be surprised to see an 8/8 dwarf.
The blades I have seen that are wider are also longer and the scales are proportionately larger also.

This is interesting to me. Seems there were German made ones and American made ones.
German ones were 50 cent more expensive? It is my understanding that Dublduck was an American enterprise, but I have not seen one which was not marked Germany?

My 2 Dwarfs for comparison with subtle differences. Blacken tangs with gold inlays. One is 2 9/16" to the first stabilizer and other is 2 5/8" to the first stabilizer. (oil on blades)

The outfit was started by Charles Bresnick in the 20s. Those razors are just marked Bresnick and many were unmarked as to origin. I suspect those are American made. At some point he became enamored by ducks and started making razors with one duck on them then he increased it to two ducks and called them twinduck. He then changed the name of the company when he moved from lower manhattan to Midtown manhattan and called it Bresduck and from that point the DD logo and name were used.

My understanding is Pearlson worked for him and bought him out in the 40s and of course renamed the outfit Pearlduck and most of the names we are familiar with are from the Pearlson era. Pearlson moved the outfit to Jamaica, N.Y and I walked by the store almost every day on my way to school never knowing......Oh the agony.

Pearlson forged a relationship with Beau Brummel and became their exclusive distributor in the U.S. Eventually Pearlson sold the outfit and it moved to Garden City N.Y as a general beautician supply outfit and was sold again as a pet suppy outfit somewhere north of NYC.

These days I don't know.

Indeed they are out there.

Thats the front and back of the same razor. You might get lucky enough to find a frenchie dubl duck as well...

So another question, Martin! When was the beginning of Dublduck? Was it around prior to WWII?
I have a few examples of razors marked Germany prior to the war, but during and shortly after, were marked USA.
Wester Bros and CMon come to mind.... Nobody in the U.S. was buying or importing German blades during the war or for a while after I feel certain.

Yes Dubl Duck prior to WWII. In the 20's if i remember correctly, but the name change to Pearlduck in 1947, and all the advertisement i posted that offered American duck were from Pearlduck, dont know for sure if there any Bresduck that are American made.
