    This razor design was patented in 1850 by Wostenholm. If you look closely at the diamond shaped stamp on the tang it gives the patent date.

    That is cool. Love the scales, I think a bit of neatsfoot massaged in would brighten them up without hurting the gold, but I'd check first, or just test a small spot.
