Having shaved with hundreds of different razors from different manufacturers, I am confident in saying there's little difference that can't be accounted for by the geometry of the blade and how hollowly ground it is.
All the old Sheffield guys were using essentially the same steel and the same workmen trained in the same techniques. The manufacturer's name doesn't even tell you where it was made!-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.

Thanked: 18Its like a piece of glass. I have used it only once, but I haven't the skills to know that it makes a difference. I have some antique stones I bought that are the same, but the antique ones are almost shine enough to see yourself. I still don't see much difference. Now the 50,000 I can't guarantee as I have looked at the box it came in and there are no mentions of grit, only the site I bought it from, and that could have even been a misprint on the site. I know you think its funny, but I have been subjected to several rip off's over time. Each time you discover you have been screwed, what do you do?

Thanked: 14razor economics
I like to look at razor ads in old magazines. It never ceases to amaze me that a Griffon model 60 was $2.50 in 1900 and the same price in 1912 and any other year add you can find. I found a receipt dated 1921 inside the box of one and it was $2.50. I'll put a picture up one day.
There is a catalog section on ^bay right now from 1911 that has a bunch of the familiar razors including W&B ($0.75 to 1.50) included. Funny that an ivory scaled J Rodgers sold for $2.50 same as a cell handle Henkles.
I still remember my 1st W&B- I got it by accident. I had about 30 razors at the time and wasn't interested in fighting over the ones on auction. I bought it for the scales to put on another razor-at that time the maker was unidentifiable. Much to my surprise as I cleaned the tang 'special' began to appear on the face and 'wade and butcher' on the back and I thought hmmm, finally. I shaved with it the next day, the heavily worn blade responded well to the coti. Now it sits next to a better preserved W&B special. I think I'll shave with it tonight....

I was reading this thread & I stopped around page 5-6. I can see where I left Michal thanks on May 21. I got to doing other things plus I'll have other windows open on my computer but I came back because I had so many windows open, I was closing out some but looking at them first & I left this one open & have been reading it until I was finished. I can't believe what went down & what I was reading after I was sidetracked for a few days.
Michael has guts & he sounds determined to accomplish his endeavor but some are in doubt & he hasn't even started making them yet! And like a few others have said, things have changed over the years, especially during the last 100 or more years. We will see what he produces & I hope he is very successful with this idea plus I wish him the best of luck. Those of you who have your doubts, give the guy a chance before you make negative comments about him! I signed up when I first read about it so we'll see what happens but until then, there should be no uncertainty with his dream.
The negativity & personal grievances need to go IMHO. We are here to help others out, share our ideas & thoughts but not make others look bad. Sure, there might be some disagreements at times but that's normal, yet at the end of the day, we call it a night & tomorrow's another day. It isn't hard to keep this forum enjoyable & even throw in a little humor at times.
I hope this dream comes true Michael.
