I just figured that if I gave Henckels a very narrow time frame, I would be more likely to get either a firm YES or a firm NO out of them.

I whetted the interest of somebody in customer relations here in NY and now all I have to do is wait for my razor so that I can send him some photos.

    Dear David Naess,

Thank you for contacting Zwilling JA Henckels. Please e-mail me back with clear photos of your razor, and be sure to show the Henckels logo in at least one of the photos. We will then forward the photos on to Henckels in Germany, where they will search for the history on your razor.

    Sincerely,

    Robert

Got my razor in the mail today.

I couldn't get images using my Nikon COOLPIX-S3600 that were anywhere near as sharp as the images that were on e-bay. (I can't get it to focus very well at a distance less than 1 meter.)
I visually verified that the e-bay pictures were, indeed, pictures of my razor, made PDFs of the images, and forwarded them to Robert at J.A. Hinckels in NY.

We shall see what we shall see.

Tried it out and this seems to be the shave ready razor (only bought 3 so far) that I have gotten to date.

The e-bay seller is: april7th1989 and s/he is located in New York City.

    Dear David Naess,

I have forwarded your e-mail and photos on to Henckels in Germany, where they will search to see if they can find any information on your knife. They will contact you when they have found the info. Please allow for at least several weeks for a reply.

    Thank you,

    Howdy manah!

Many thanks for the reference to the thread you listed.

Since the Illing on the scales of my razor is aligned like the picture posted and since the series number is 10072 1/2, I am leaning toward the opinion that I got an authentic Henckels for a great price. I feel perfectly content to go on thinking so until I get work from Henckels informing me otherwise.

I have updated my speculation as to the manufacturing date -- based on the information in the thread, a date of 1966 seems much more likely.
