Default May have to keep my razors in my bathroom...with steam and moisture...suggestions?

I have always kept my razors in a closet outside of the bathroom where there is little heat and little moisture, but in our new apartment I have lost some closet space. I may be able to still find a place outside of the bathroom, but Im running out of ideas. Most of my razors are stainless but I do still have a few carbon steel blades and a lot of the hardware will rust rather easily I would assume. I oil everything even the stainless blades after each shave, but I dont really think thats going to help too much.

Any safe way to store razors long term in the bathroom??

tuff-glide, camilla oil and Renaissance wax are all products that work well. Which is best, I can't say.

you can use one of those moisture absorbing packs...think of the little ones that come in shoe boxes but on a bigger scale. i know they make them that are meant to be kept in a tool box to prevent tools from rusting

I use mineral oil now and it works really well, but I dont know if its an effective barrier against steam?

I actually have several gallons of that in my gun safe, but I have nowhere to keep the stuff in the bathroom, all my shelves are over crowded with shaving stuff as it is... I suppose I could keep the razors in the gun safe though lol...

Your probably OK with the stainless ones but the carbon steel I would be concerned about. Its those little areas you can't get to that would concern me as far as rust goes.

My wife really wants me to show them off on the wall in the hallway or living room, but I just cant find anything that would hold them or display them well...everything I have is between 8/8 and 12/8

Put the stainless razors in the bathroom, the carbon in a sock drawer and I have a nice spot for the 12/8 over at my house.

I have mine on the counter in the bathroom. So far no rust at all. I just keep them in a ceramic vase at the moment.

Dealing with Carbon kitchen knives for a while now and I've been treating the razors the same way. Mineral oil works great for long term storage but for day to day use I just make sure they are dry. Now I'm also one that loves a good Patena on carbon steel and that keeps rust at arms length. So if your carbon blades are highly polished regularly (keeping the patina down) the rust may afect you differently than mine. Your location is also critical, I'm not in a himid salty region.

I always keep my razors high, dry and out of reach of little hands. For most of my life this has meant the top shelf in my bedroom's closet. When I lather up I just walk into the bedroom, select a razor and bring it back. I highly recommend this as the steam in the bathroom will certainly damage the carbon blades.

    Regards,
    EL

    Josh,

missed your posts for a while, now I know why: you were moving house then?

I keep my carbon steels in the bathroom. It is a very small bathroom used by four people. Up to now no problem. I wipe them dry after shaving, leave them to dry for a day and put them back in the coffin.

BTW, I have always felt that carbon steel used for razors is somehow less prone to rust, I am not sure why. Maybe a member with more knowledge of matallurgy can explain.
